I play the guitar professionally. I've played the guitar for over 40 years. During those
years I've tried every brand, type and gauge string I can get my hands on.
I STILL experiment with all kinds of string brands. These DR Sunbeams are
one of those string brands that I've recently become re-interested in.
Unlike nearly every other guitar string style, Sunbeams are wound on
ROUND CORE WIRES. Most other strings are wound on hex shape core wires.

The round cores tend to do TWO things to these strings.
ONE, the round core allows more contact between the core
and the winding, which results in more SUSTAIN.
And TWO, the overall tension of the string is a bit lower than
a similar gauge string with a hex core.

This lower overall tension means the guitar is a little bit
easier on the fretting hand. If you play tons of barre chords
or for some other reason, experience a little discomfort in your
fretting hand, these strings might help give a little relief!

Another benefit of the lower tension is that if you've wanted
to experiment with bigger gauge strings, like Leo, SRV, Jimi and
a lot of other players have done, these Sunbeams will give you
bigger wires, but without quite the high tension of most other brands.

DR string gauges, and their English language descriptors, are a little
different than other string manufacturer descriptors.
What most manufacturers refer to as LIGHT (12-54) is MEDIUM in DR brand.
What most manufacturers refer to as MEDIUM (13-56) is MEDIUM HEAVY in DR brand.
There is no industry standard for the words LIGHT, MEDIUM or HEAVY.
Different manufacturers use different gauges within their respective sets.
It's probably idea to choose strings based on the actual measured diameter
than to choose a set simply because it include the word(s) LIGHT, MEDIUM or HEAVY.

On small body acoustic guitars,
like OM's, GC's, GA's etc.
Or if you're used to using
light gauge strings (12-54)
the similar DR SUNBEAM series string is probably
RCA-12

On medium size or larger guitars,
like dreadnaughts or jumbos,
or if you're used to using
medium gauge strings (13-56)
the similar DR SUNBEAM series string is probably
RCA-13
